First let me say that I am extremely jealous that you were able to test drive Montblanc's Ingrid Bergman Fountain Pen. This is an amazing pen that I have only been able to admire it from afar. So knowing how it looks, I'd be interested to know how it feels. I must admit that I have only experienced a Meisterstuck that was passed down to me from my father. It's a weighty pen and I found the nib to glide nicely, even for its age. I also agree with you about the essence of the pen. Montblanc is brilliant at capturing their subject and displaying them in the pen. Thanks for the post.

Wow are you lucky! That's quite a haul. Isn't the R&K good stuff? Verdigris and Alt-Bordeaux have been in and out of my rotation for years but recently Ryan at Pear Tree Pens sent samples of colors I'd never tried. Now Solferino and Magenta are getting lots of time in my rotation. Helianthus will be next now that I've read your comments on it.

That crystallization shows up around the bottle rims even with normal storage but I haven't seen any damage from it. Other brands with highly saturated inks have that issue, too. It just wipes away. No worries.

I have both and I strongly recommend them as a great entry-level fountain pen, very comfortable, writes incredibly smooth and it's reasonably priced. I've converted a couple of users to FPens with these!

Great review! One additional feature to the Safari and AL-Star is the easily swapped nibs that come in the usual sizes as well as three italic versions. My favorites are the extra-fine and the 1.1 mm calligraphy nibs. There is always at least one of each on my desk and that is high praise indeed.
